Can building Muscle Mass stunt your growth?

I am a 17 year old male. I am very short for my age, and I am waiting on my second growth spurt (fingers crossed, people.) I recently started working out, so I can start shedding "that skinny kid" image. I'm drinking protein shakes, and I'm on a diet so I can eat the right things to Gain Muscle weight. I just want to know if all this working out (lifting weights etc.) will stunt my growth, and I'll just be this akward buff short person who belongs in the circus!

Lifting in general will not stunt your growth, however, certain exercises can. For exercises that put weight on your bones and spine, don't go heavy. This includes pretty much any exercise where you are standing or in a vertical postion. The compression that results from these types of lifting exercises can injure the growth plates of your bones, and also compress your spine. Stick with lighter weights with these exercises, and go heavier on things like seated curls, chest presses, tricep extensions, etc.
